Production notice of pilot run production for New Customers
Introduction
For EMS industry, pilot run production is the first step for new customers who can understand PSI production procedure via pilot run production. I will explain the production notice of pilot run production by two aspects.
- Material
- Customer needs to provide material list for production which we names it BOM
- In considering production LT, customer can provide PRE-BOM to buy material ahead and shorten LT
- When PSI received BOM from customer, we divide components into “turn-key” parts and consigned parts.
3-2 PSI production LT is 7 working days for pilot run production.3-1 PSI will check the ETA for both turn-key” parts and consigned parts in order to confirm ship date to our customers.
- If consigned parts spec. is different from what is specified in BOM, it is needed to be noticed in “consignment release list)
4-1 consigned parts should be marked with part no. in order to identify.
4-2 Loss parts in reel package should be provided extra 10-15cm long enable SMD machine to process.
- Consigned PCB should provide material and date code info. enable to process production preparation.
- If there is any sensitive parts, customer should keep PSI alerted for a special process before production.
- If there is any non-fit component, customer should inform PSI in advance,
- If there is any special material needed to fit on board, PSI should be advised in advance.
- If there is any component which should hand soldered instead of going through reflow, PSI should be advised in advance.
- Production Process
- PCBA production technical data should be provided 3 days prior to kitting date.
1-2 X,Y files should be provided before production1-1 If PCBA is penalized, penalization file should be provided (suggest to make the file by PSI in order to have a better production quality, efficiency and reduce production cost by building carriers)
1-3 Stencil build notice: if PSI builds stencil, notice should be provided to customers 1-4 customer should provide consigned stencil 3 days prior to kitting date
- SMD profile provided by PSI to understand production reflow temperature
2-1 PSI should be informed if solder board trial run is needed.
2-2 Reflow temperature requested for any particular component
- If production needs DIP process only (Stencil is not needed)
- need a notice when AOI process is required for pilot run production
- need a notice when X-Ray process is required for pilot run production
- need a notice when particular solder paste is required for pilot run production
- To evaluate SMD & DIP carrier build pilot run production
- If Assembly, test and packing process is required, customer should provide SOP to transfer technology.
Basically, pilot run production notice depends upon different product categories The above listed notices is a general rule. There are some special cases which can’t be fully listed here.
If pilot run production notice issues are provided, PSI can finish production within the shortest lead time and provide professional production quality as well as set up a reliability standards. PSI can make win-win situation for our customer to market their products with low volume high mix brand.
